Tony Strange - Leder of the West Mendip Ramblers Sub Group said
"Bob was a cheery soul and never gave the impression of being sad or down-hearted about his Mesothelioma (asbestos related cancer) which he knew was a death sentence.
I believe his father died in his nineties of the same thing which he picked up while working in the Liverpool shipbuilding industry. It is conceivable Bob developed mesothelioma at an early age which was then aggravated when he did national service and served in the Royal Navy as asbestos was used in many of the vessels of that time."
